Numerous career opportunities exist in beauty institutes, hair salons, health clubs, cruise ships, resorts and cosmetic firms. Many hairstylists choose to open their own salon while others gain employment as teaching professionals.
Curriculum
Professional Development
Focuses on building essential skills like poise and posture, ethics, personality development, communication, and human relations. Topics also include life skills, nutrition, sanitation, sterilization, and bacteriology to prepare students for professional environments.
The Hair
Covers the properties, composition, and growth of hair, along with hair analysis, scalp care, and product knowledge. Includes education on hair loss, scalp treatments, and comprehensive guidance on maintaining healthy hair.
Hairstyling
Learn a variety of hairstyling techniques, including updos, braids, blow-dry styling, curling, roller setting, comb-outs, pincurls, and finger waves. Advanced techniques like specialized blow-drying and wig styling are also covered, along with cornrowing, braided extensions/weaving, and glue-in extensions.
Basic Haircutting
Covers foundational haircutting skills such as blunt cuts, classic bob cuts, long layers, and even layers, as well as basic draping techniques. Students will learn essential cutting methods for creating classic styles.
Advanced Haircutting and Barbering
Offers advanced training in men’s and women’s clipper cuts, razor cuts, texturizing, point cutting, and the latest industry tools. Includes the most up-to-date techniques and procedures for modern hairstyles.
Basic Perming
Introduces fundamental perm wraps and basic wrapping techniques for various hair types.
Advanced Perming
Explores more intricate perming techniques like creative perms, piggyback and spiral wraps, and chemical relaxing for both long and short hair.
Basic Hair Colouring
Teaches the principles of color application, hair color chemistry, the law of hair color, and basic highlighting techniques.
Advanced Hair Colouring
Focuses on specialized color applications, including lightening, freehand techniques, foiling, 3D color, and special effects. Students will also learn corrective color techniques, color-and-cut combinations, and competition-level skills.
Salon Management
Prepares students for managing a salon through training in customer service, business procedures, career counseling, resume writing, job interview skills, and salon trends. The program also includes mentorship and guidance on starting a business.
